| Mary Gorrell Jones, Founder
Following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2003, Mary Gorrell Jones created the Alight Initiative to provide adequate resources so others diagnosed with breast cancer could be better informed about treatment options and what to expect. In addition, she wanted to make sure each patient and their family had a support network to help them through the difficult times ahead. Mary's desire was to help ease the fear, panic, and disbelief of new patients so they could focus on the business of healing.

Frances Bullock, Chairman of the Board, 2011-2012
Welcome to the Alight website. Thank you for your interest and your visit to the site. Whether you are a newly diagnosed breast cancer patient, a survivor, part of a support team, or a funder, we welcome any of your suggestions and comments on how we may serve you, through our programs or this website.
Over the last few years I have had the honor of supporting several dear friends during their breast cancer journey. Presently, I am walking side by side with my most cherished sister as she begins her breast cancer journey.
With today's economy there is a tremendous need to help those who don't have the resources to focus on their treatment or their wellness. To the generous donors that allow Alight to provide services and resources to the women diagnosed with breast cancer, please accept my sincerest gratitude and appreciation. It is a privilege to serve those who are taking the breast cancer journey; for they are our friends, neighbors, co-workers and family members.
Frances Bullock, Alight Board Chairman, 2011-12
Frances Bullock is married to Judge Frank Bullock and has been a champion and advocate for many needs within the community. She has served numerous charitable organizations over the years and currently participates on the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro's Women to Women, Children's Home Society of NC, and the Virginia Episcopal School.
The Alight Board of Directors is essential to Alight in many respects: for input on the program of work and the knowledge of needs and gaps in patient care; for continued collaborations and relationships with the medical community; for access to patients; for survivor input and; for advocacy.
In 2009 the Board of Directors went from a five-member Board to a 14-member Board and then in 2011 the Board became a 20-member Board. The Board is a dedicated group of individuals with a passion for quality care for breast cancer patients. The 2011 Board includes nine breast cancer survivors, eight medical professionals, three CPAs, a Rockingham County representative, representatives from NC A&T and UNCG, and many important community advocates.

The concept of a local breast cancer support organization grew out of a vision shared between Mary and her radiologist Dr. Gilda Cardenosa. Mary was touched by the exceptional compassion and care Dr. Cardenosa offered her patients and her great concern for those facing financial challenges. With the help of like-minded friends, buy-in, collaborations, and partnerships, Alight was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2005 and launched its first program of work.
Significant to the successful start-up of Alight were the relationships developed with the medical professionals, Moses Cone Health System, UNCG's School of Health and Human Performance, and The Junior League of Greensboro. In addition to Mary, the first Alight Board of Directors included members: David Johnston, CPA; Dave Perrin, PhD, UNCG; Ashley Wall, community advocate; and Cristin Flynt, PhD, who served as Executive Director.
